Saving Lives: World Blood Donor Day
Teleperformance · 06.13.2022

Every June 14, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated to create wider awareness about the importance of donating blood in order to save lives.

Just one donation goes a long way. According to Cedars Sinai, one donation is enough to save three lives. However, the COVID-19 pandemic tremendously impacted the blood supply. According to the National Library of Medicine, there is a widespread shortage of blood supply in many parts of the world, thus leading to a decline in blood transfusion services.

Donating blood also contributes to more – from scientific research to plasma treatments, blood donation remains a valuable factor in helping and healing the world. Observing World Blood Donor Day spreads awareness about the growing need for blood donation, and also creates an opportunity to recognize the voluntary, unpaid blood donors every year. This is the universal theme of World Blood Donor Day: to honor the selfless individuals who willingly share their blood to save lives.

What Teleperformance is Doing

Teleperformance answers the call for more people to donate blood regularly to help save lives. We believe that our blood drive campaigns have played an important part in creating awareness about the need for regular blood donation, and became a way for us to be united under the values of generosity, selflessness, and solidarity.

Throughout 2021, our various sites have participated and organized several blood drives.

Overall, Teleperformance had a total of 675 volunteer hours related to blood drive campaigns. The largest blood drives took place at Teleperformance in Greece, Tunisia, United States, Mexico, and China. Here are a few of our initiatives in each country.

  • Greece: In cooperation with the Smile of the Child, Teleperformance in Greece spearheaded the "Weekends of Life" initiative. This initiative ran a blood drive unit for eight weeks. Its impact truly made a positive difference, reaching 2,400 lives.

  • Tunisia: Our volunteers from Teleperformance in Tunisia across all sites donated 331 blood bags (equivalent to ~106 liters). The beneficiary for the blood drive campaign was the Tunisian Red Crescent.
  • United States: Teleperformance in the United States participated in blood drives for the American Red Cross and One Blood.

  • Mexico: Three blood drive campaigns were held across our sites in Mexico: two for blooders.org, and one for the Hospital Muguerza. 40 to 90 employees participated in each blood drive.

  • China: Our sites in China organized four blood drives in four different cities. These blood donation activities were held at the Guicheng, Xi’an, Kunming, and Nanning blood donation centers.
